Whilst training qualifications is a part of what defines a competent individual in AS 4685.0:2017 (clause 5.1), there is no occupational licensing, legislative or requirement for you to have certification for tasks such as the assessment, inspection, repair and/or maintenance of playgrounds in Australia, as stated in AS 4685.0:2017 clause 8.5.7 these tasks shall be completed by a competent individual.
However, it is good practice, a nation wide joint effort and accepted as an industry-standard benchmark to have playground inspectors evaluated as competent through training and assessment.
Level 3 Comprehensive (annual and post-installation) inspections can only be carried out by an individual who is trained and has experience where they can conduct a full conformity check to the AS 4685 series. Impact testing applies the same but in accordance to AS 4422 where the individual is able to operate the specialised equipment and interpret the results. These inspections aren’t required to be conducted by the same person or organisation (AS 4685.0:2017, clause 8.5.7).
